What is TheGrid.io?
TheGrid.io is the self-proclaimed web builder that uses artificial intelligence to design websites automatically. It takes everything that you upload into it: images, text, videos, audio, etc. and automatically pulls out color and styles to arrange the content into beautiful looking web pages.
The system is very controversial and has many people arguing that it is either a terrible idea for web design as the code behind the system is spaghetti and not optimized. Other people are raving about the idea of being able to dump everything into a site and it do all the designing for you.
Some of the concerns about TheGrid.io is that the only available example of how the AI web builder works is thegrid.io and that site is 32MB and takes a long of time to load. This may be a big issue for search engine optimization (SEO) and might make TheGrid.io designed websites not competitive as marketing pieces in search engines like Google and Bing.
If this is how the final product functions, then sites built with the AI may only be good for aesthetically pleasing informational sites. This doesn’t mean that it won’t serve a purpose, but it may limit the opportunity to use this easy site builder to increase sales and competitive business edge.
The delivery date for the software was spring 2015, but it is already late and the developers have announced that it won’t be available until fall 2015. They offered a free six months to all of the founders who spent $97 for 12 months of TheGrid.io services.
Whether or not they succeed in building such a software, it is truly and indication of where the future of web design is headed. Many web developers where upset at the thought of software that does their job, but really software and the web is always evolving and developers need to adapt or get left behind.
AI built sites may not be the norm in 2016, but you can almost bet for sure that by 2026 all websites will have AI behind them assisting humans to do even more and make it look amazing on all possible devices automatically. Here’s to the future!
