Twitter is one of those sites that has been around a long time but still very few people know how to use it correctly. Building business online requires focus and dedication, and it’s no different with Twitter.
Knowing how to use a site can be challenging, it is very confusing and a huge difference on the platform from other social media sites.
So what is the correct Twitter strategy? First of all, it is using the platform directly and not linking a Facebook page to it. Facebook Auto posting through to Twitter is completely worthless, and will not engage people or offer them any value.
The first thing to get going is to get a list of the type of people you want to follow. This comes down to what your goals are for the platform.
Want to be better known in your town for your business or occupation? Then you need to follow people who are in that same town. It’s not necessary to follow people that are in the same industry, unless that is your specific goal.
Define your target audience and only follow those people. If you already have a page put together, this may mean that you have to unfollow a lot of random pages that you followed in the past. We want the timeline of posts to be very clear and focused and not have people in it who are not going to further the mission.
Once we have a good amount of accounts that we are following, the next thing to do is to engage with them. Scroll through the timeline and find tweets that you find interesting and like them. Also comment on those posts and add enthusiastic clever or witty responses to them.
This will get the attention of those posters who are most likely business owners or people you want to network in your local area or in industry. Now continue to do this process on a regular basis: daily if possible or several times a week.
You’ll notice when doing this regularly that you’ll start to get engagement and start to build a movement and following. this is how Twitter works, you have to work it and build an audience.
The very best Twitter strategy is to be devoted to the platform and share and offer knowledge and value to the platform. The more you work at it the more successful you’ll be.
Some fun things to post about are:
– Photos about what your business is up to
– Would you rather posts that are fun for the audience
– Random facts about something in your industry
– Events that are going around in the local area and asking who is going
– Polls about what people think about a certain topic
– Special Twitter only offers that people can take advantage of by mentioning at your business
– Links to interesting articles you found online with a little bit of your summary thrown in
– Sharing posts of others you follow that you think are interesting and others would enjoy
– Holiday and days-of-interest posts that are uplifting
These are just some ideas on what to post. There are countless ways to engage your audience on Twitter. Just try to keep it from being too boring, remember what would you like to read? It’s all about coming off warm and welcoming and being someone that others would like to listen to and speak with. The best Twitter strategy is to be friendly and likeable towards others and what they share.
