WordPress 2021 theme just came out, and it’s time to switch out the backup theme.
What am I talking about?
Every WordPress website runs a theme, this is called the main theme. In addition to the main theme, I recommend having a back up theme in case anything happens to the main theme.
It’s necessary to be able to switch over to the backup theme for trouble shooting the main theme if anything goes wrong. If there’s no theme to switch over too, it can be real trouble when the issues happen.
So every year when a new theme comes out from WordPress, I delete the old theme (2020) and install the new one. Actually the new one doesn’t need to be installed usually, it will come with the latest WordPress (5.6 just rolled out).
The reason why I recommend only keeping two themes, the main one and a back up, is because anything beyond that just wastes resources. I recommend running just the plugins and themes that you need and nothing more than that.
The leaner a website the faster it will load and the less resources used on the hosting. So now that WordPress 2021 is out, it’s time to clear out all the old themes so that just the main theme and WordPress 2021 is there.
This is just a small task and many people overlook it. Most web developers would never encourage you to do this. Why would they care?
But I’m always about all the little details. I find that success is always found in the little details. Have a question about how to optimize your word press theme? Shoot me a query on my Contact page!

WordPress has changed a lot over the years. Same as the internet
Yes, WordPress has evolved quite a bit since the original days when I first started working on it back in 2008. That was version 1.0 lol!
