Page updated:
Time stamp SEO is a technique for showing the Google bots that a website page is updated on a regular basis. A time stamp is a piece of code that robots can read and also shows on the page in a way that humans can read and allows the understanding of when the page was last updated.
On this page I put a timestamp at the top of when this page was updated. Although it’s a blog post, this gives you an idea of how time stamp SEO works. Google bots love to have time stamps because it shows that a web page has been updated regularly.
For example, we put timestamps on our SEO backlink program and this allows the Google bots or web crawlers to know when the last time that the page was updated. The reason why this is so important in SEO is that timeliness of updating is the key to a good web according to Google.
As you can imagine, the most recent information is the most valuable information. Have you ever looked for something online and found information from 2014 and realized that’s not going to help you solve whatever you’re looking for? Well that’s what happens when you find old content!
So Google doesn’t want to serve up old content that may not be relevant anymore and that’s why a timestamp can really help. So the secret to time stamp SEO is finding pages that you can update regularly and putting a timestamp on them.
The timestamp code looks like this: Page updated: November 27th, 2019
I would recommend using it on any pages that you update regularly. We put it on our SEO program but you may put it on a resource page or on a events page or any page that you have to come back to an update on a regular basis. Putting the time stamp at the top of the page is usually a good idea and is what the Google bots will read first.
I’ve noticed a huge uptick in the value of SEO when using time stamps. So it’s a good idea to use this where applicable and it will help give you an edge over your competition.
