8 or above = Excellent SEO potential
6 or above = Good SEO potential
4 or above = Ok, but may not rank well
2 or below = Need to work harder on SEO
Number one is has keywords of common searched phrase in the domain. So why is this important? The way spiders work with Google search is that they crawl the web looking for matches with keywords. When your domain name matches the keywords that a customer would search for, this is what Google calls a direct match lineup.
For example, if a company does fence painting in ABC town, a good SEO match domain name would be fencepaintingABCtown.com for example. Now this may not always be possible, and there are brand names to consider also putting in your domain but it gives you a good idea of how you can score a point on this particular element.
The next number 2 is update the content on the website every 3 months. Updating the content on your website is a very important ranking ranking factor. Google wants to see that you are creating timely content related to your industry so that when customers come to look, they’re getting the most relevant information possible for what they’re searching for.
This is where a blog can really help out a lot or adding pictures or updating little snippets of content here and there is really a good idea.
Number 3 is post a blog post every month or every other month. Now this is a lot of work, but it’s totally worth it! If you can write about what it is that you do in your industry kind of like what it is that I’m doing here you will have a much better chance of ranking.
Number 4 is have a industry resource page located on the website. We have an industry resource page located on our website you can find it here and it’s located at the bottom of every single page on our site, this makes us the resource for web design. It’s not that our customers want to find information about website development or how to do it, it’s that we are the expert when we put this information out on the web and Google recognizes that. We encourage you to do something similar with your website!
Number 5 is post on social media daily or weekly at least. Google wants to see that you are active on social media, this is an important ranking factor these days because it shows that a company is involved in the local community and has information to share.
Number 6 is have at least three good testimonials located online. It’s really important to have positive testimonials on your Google Local Page or Facebook or Yelp profiles are other profiles online.
Number 7 is have a complete Google My Business profile with a map listing. You can find out how to rank your business located here. It’s a really good idea to fill this profile out as well as possible and try to get as many reviews as possible you can also post on there like a blog post as well and add pictures all of this is going to help you come up first in Google maps.
Number 8 is completing multiple business profiles online like Yelp, Yellow Pages, LinkedIn, Facebook, etc. The more profiles that you have online with links to your website the better the ranking is going to be and these are all free we have the top 50 free business profiles online that you can fill out located here.
Number 9 is too belong to two or more organizations with backlinks, for example we are a member of TEAM Referral Network and also a member of network after work these both have backlinks that go to our website from the profiles. You might be involved with the local Chamber of Commerce or you might have other networking groups that you’re involved in.
These are all great ways to get links that point back to your website.
Number 10 is updating the portfolio of work or picture gallery on your website. It’s really important to have lots and lots of quality images on your website, in a portfolio of work or picture gallery is the perfect place to do this. This also counts as number two on our list here because if you’re updating your portfolio of work it also counts to update the content of your website.
So that’s how you do the SEO fitness test. Now, add up all the points from each activity. If you got eight or more you are doing excellent, if you got six or more you’re doing pretty good and if you only got four or more that means you have more work to do and if you got to or below you really need to work hard on your SEO.
