Legacy copyrights are a particular type of copyright for websites. Most websites have a copyright at the bottom indicating the year that the material is copyrighted for, i.e. 2018. This is fine and dandy, as long as it is the correct year, as many are outdated, but to upgrade this enter the legacy copyright.
The legacy copyright takes into consideration all the time a website has been online. So for some of our customers this is as far back as 2001 or 2002. We want to show a little extra bit of confidence to the visitor that the websites been online for a long time.
Some customers just started their website in 2018. It is still okay to do a legacy copyright on those websites that would look like Copyright 2018 – 2019, but legacy copyright is less often used this way.
Because it is important to think about updating your copyright every year if you don’t have an automated piece of software doing it for you, maybe you should think about doing a legacy copyright.
Even with automated software PHP code blocks that update the year for you automatically, you can still do a legacy copyright. It would start with the year founded and then go – the PHP code that would update automatically to the current year.
**Note that at the bottom of this website you can see a live example of a legacy copyright (SkyPoint was founded in 2013).**
