Website protection is very important. You’ve put a lot of energy, cost and time into your website and it’s very important to protect it.
There are many different ways to protect your website and I’ve covered a lot in this blog. From SSL certificates, to malware scanners, to updating plug-ins and software, to making sure you have the right website platform.
But in this article today, we’re going to talk about one of the ways to protect your website that’s really important that many people don’t think about. This form of website protection is downloading the website files and database every so often.
To fully protect a website, it’s important to download the site files and database, the whole website, every six months or 12 months at most. This is important because although you may have backups in place with the host company and you really should have back ups with your host, those only last for 10 or maybe 30 days at the most.
If there’s an issue that’s been going on that has been around longer than the back ups, then you will have corrupted and lost your website and there will be no way to save it through just back ups alone. This is where a download of the full website files and database is important.
What you can do with this download is re-upload it over the current website and all of the files and database that was there before will come back. It’s especially important to do this if you notice bugs happening on the website.
If the website is buggy and starts to crash and fail, perhaps after an update like the last one we did WordPress 6.0, then it’s important to roll the website back and get a download of the website while it’s working before you move forward.
This will prevent any issues in the future if it happens again and you don’t happen to be able to catch it in time to roll it back. Full website downloads can also be moved to any new web host, so they are handy in the chance that you do need to move your website somewhere else.
Additionally, if you can’t get a hold of your web host or web admin, you can always take that back up and move it to a new host and your website will be back up as long as you can get a hold of the domain. In a worst-case scenario you could always get a new domain and have the website on that.
Have a question about how to do website protection for your website? I’d be glad to show you around and make sure that you’re fully backed up and protected in case anything happens. Drop me a line on my contact form here and I will get back to you as soon as possible!
