When it comes to WordPress themes, there’s lots of options, but it’s important to know what the consequences of choosing some themes are.
Generally, if a theme is in the open WordPress Market and is fairly popular, it’s probably pretty safe. However, there are exceptions and some themes have bugs in them that will affect your database even when you switch to a new theme.
But that’s not the main topic of this blog post, rather it’s a segway into some of the reasons why you want to keep a clean WordPress theme area. What I recommend, is only having two themes installed generally. The main theme I recommend be a premium theme, which you can find at Themeforest WordPress themes, they have a lot of great options there.
In addition to the premium theme that is installed, you always want to have one backup theme in case anything goes wrong with your main theme. The backup theme option I recommend is WordPress 2019 theme.
This is a good backup theme because it is just basic and if you ever have any issues with your main theme, switching to this will ensure you’re able to troubleshoot the problem without any complicated coding getting in the way. So that brings me to the main point of this post: clean out any themes that are hanging out in your theme area that are not your main premium theme or your backup WordPress 2019 theme.
The reason why I recommend doing this, is because it clears up memory space on your hosting and therefore can theoretically speed up your website. I know this is a very very minute detail and would be very hard to actually measure the differences, however, I truly believe in making sure every part of your WordPress site is as optimized as possible.
Cleaning out the themes area of unused themes is often an area that most people overlook. Even if you haven’t played around and tried installing multiple different themes before settling on your final theme, like many people do, you most likely have WordPress 2016; WordPress 2017; & WordPress 2018 all just hanging out in the themes area and those will never ever be needed.
So I recommend cleaning this all out and also do this with any plugins that are hanging around as well that you’re not using. Have any questions about what theme to use or how to clear out your theme area? Hit me up here on my contact form or call me at 406-208-8733 I’d love to chat with you!
