Protect cPanel at all cost! That should be the war cry of any website admin, LOL!
But seriously, it’s very important to protect cPanel from threats. So how is it possible to protect cPanel? Well there’s a lot of different things that can be done, but today I’m going to discuss a specific software product that makes the job a lot easier.
Before we get to that, I want to discuss some of the things that should be done to protect cPanel in general. It’s important to pick a good hosting company that protects the environment of the cPanel. Some less expensive and less well-known hosting companies have been known to put thousands of customers on one server.
cPanels that share the same hosting environment can cause cross infections if a neighbor is infected. So the number one thing to do is to make sure you get a good hosting company with a quality cPanel. I recommend having a dedicated VPS for your cPanels, that way you and only you are in the hosting environment.
That’s what we do here at SkyPoint Studios for all of our clients. Once a good hosting company and cPanel is picked out, the next thing to do is make sure that the cPanel has a strong password. Anyone with access who gets the password should be vetted properly and make sure to change the password anytime anybody leaves. Definitely don’t want anyone to have this password hanging around out there.
Okay, so once all those things are done, what we want to do is focus on a software product that we’re going to be buying and installing. The software product is called Immunify AV. It focuses on firewall and clean up.
What is great about Immunify AV is it allows management of multiple cPanels from the interface. The dashboard allows the clean up and active scanning of each cPanel account. The software works really great and is very affordable. A subscription for the year was only around $60.
I highly recommend purchasing and installing this product on the whole cpanel. Ignore other software products that only protect one website at a time (Securi for example). Securi is very expensive and will only protect the one website. Immunify AV by comparison is very affordable and can protect hundreds of websites inside each cPanel.
I think this is a good reason to go with Immunify AV, as it’s protecting every single file on the whole cpanel, rather than just the one website core files.
Finding the right hosting provider is quite the challenge and it can be expensive and detrimental to business when choosing the wrong host company.
I’ve found a cool resource that reviews web hosting where they mine data on Twitter to find out what actual customers are saying and how they feel about web hosting products.
