Checking Internet speed is a common task for the average web user these days. It’s important to know whether the internet speed that your internet service provider claims they are providing is actually accurate.
Beyond that, it’s also important to see whether things are slowing down the internet speed such as the router or other issues. Typically when a speed is not what it supposed to be, it’s important to reset the router or upgrade the router to get better speeds.
So how do we go about checking Internet speed?
There are several reliable places to check internet speed and I’m going to share a favorite of mine today. The place to check internet speed is Speed Test by Speedcheck.
This website does a good job of showing the website speed in a quick manner. Make sure to click on the blue “Start Test” button and not the ads around it.
The more often internet speed is checked and kept up on, the better value received from the internet service provider. It’s important to make sure that they are providing the best router and best service.
So how do we check our router to see if it is working correctly?
There are several places on the web that cover this, one is How To Troubleshoot a Router. The other way to check the router is to call the internet service provider and have them run some diagnostics on it. Of course unplugging and re-plugging the router in can sometimes resolve speed issues or other issues as well.
If you’re someone who rents the router from the internet service provider, you may want to ask them for a new router every other year or so to keep up with modern devices and speeds.
