Page Builders: Web Design’s Dead End
Page builders like Wix and Squarespace offer a lot of convenience. It sure can be nice to drag & drop elements to build a website. Everybody loves how easy contact forms, sliders, pictures, you name it, just drags and drops right into place.
Page Builders Main Pain Point
But wait a minute, there’s trouble in paradise! Did you know, that if you want to leave one of these page builders, you don’t get to keep your website? Oh no, all that hard work that was put into it. Yes, it’s true you must continue to pay the monthly fee or you lose your website. This is why I highly recommend building on your own code platform.
Suggested CMS that also have dragon drop features like Wix or Squarespace is WordPress. Or press is great, because you own the code. No matter what happens, you can always take your website along with you and go somewhere else to a new host.
Why would you want to bother with something that holds your property ransom? We don’t, that’s why we use the WordPress theme Enfold which has page builders. We wrote up a great tutorial on how to use Enfold. Enfold is a great WordPress theme that has very powerful drag & drop features. We use it for this website as a matter of fact.
When you do your new website design, you’ll want to own the code. Always ask the web designer if they will send you all the files for the website. A good designer will sign off on you owning the intellectual property of all the code.
If anyone says that they own the code, this is a red flag. All successful businesses, will require their own code base that they own outright un-attached from any other third-party company.
