What is Meta Threads?
Threads is the new platform from Meta, the company who owns Instagram and Facebook. They launched Threads last week, which is a text based social media platform similar to Twitter. They launched this platform to compete directly with Twitter and to provide another platform in their suite of social media sites that is more focused on text interaction.
Although Threads just launched, it already has crossed 100 million active users in a very short time span (it did this in a record breaking 5 days after launch). It is the fastest growing social media platform of all time. What’s helped spur this growth is the fact that anyone with an Instagram account can automatically create a Threads account with the same details from the Instagram and follow all the same people on Threads that they’re following on Instagram with one click.
This makes it super convenient to sign up for and create an account. it’s also from a company that we all know well which created Facebook and Instagram and is a reliable source in the social media space. Whenever there is a new social media platform that is taking off and getting a lot of traction, it’s important for brands to establish themselves and build a audience there and a following.
The reason why it’s valuable to get established in the beginning when the platform his new is that you’ll get far more reach an exposure for your brand for free then you would after the platform is already established. For example, if you start a Threads account today at the same time you create an Instagram account, and post the exact same things on both the likelihood of your Threads account growing and expanding much more and getting a lot more exposure compared to the Instagram account is much higher because the platform is so new. This has always historically been the case and those who took to Instagram, TikTok, Twitter or Facebook first always reaped the most benefits compared to those who came later.
So what is so unique about this new platform?
Threads has a text limit of 500 characters which is double the amount that Twitter allows. It also has double the length of video time for uploads compared to Twitter as well. These are some differentiating factors why users would want to use Threads over Twitter, but also it has a great way of handling images and videos and creates a really nice resolution and image schematic compared to the way Twitter handles videos and images.
This is because the team that built Instagram also worked on designing Threads and brought in a lot of that magic that they have for image processing that they use on Instagram. Instagram is well known as the best social media site for photography and still remains that way to this day.
So have you signed up for a Threads account yet?
If not, I highly recommend you do it, it’s super easy and quick to do so and all you have to do is download Threads from the store and open it and sign in using your Instagram account and then boom you have automatically followed a bunch of people and created an account just like that.
I recommend sharing content to this new account just like you share contact all your other accounts. Our company strategy for creating social media content is to create one piece and distribute to all platforms at the same time. This works well for us but you may want to create unique content for each platform depending on how much time you have available to do so.
Looking forward to seeing exactly what happens with this new social media platform, and establishing a good base on it. This post here will also go to Threads as well, so see you there!
